The Advantage Program and Assessments Driven-Review

What is Assessment-Driven Review Method?

THE Advantage Program

How long does the NCLEX Advantage program take?

The Advantage program typically runs for three (3) months but students can extend to four (4) months (on a case to case basis) as long as proper authorization has been granted by Evoke Learning.

How is the program schedule structured?

The schedule for Proctored and Non-Proctored is flexible while the Remediation is made 2 weeks before the track ends.

The NCLEX Advantage uses both computer-based assessments and traditional live lectures.  How long are the live lectures?

The lecture for each topic area is a maximum of four (4) hours.  However, there are certain circumstances wherein lectures are extended. If there are 3 sessions of lecture within the day, a student can attend all the lectures scheduled for that day. A student may also repeat attending the lecture of a particular topic area since Evoke Learning allows unlimited sit-ins within a three (3) to four (4) month program.

My Account

Who has access to my online account?

Online accounts can only be accessed with the Evoke Learning issued Student ID Number (SID) and Personal Password.  Thus, it is very important that you keep this information in a safe place.

Can I share my Student ID (SID) number?
No! Your SID should be stored in a safe place.   It is also helpful to create a password that you can easily remember. However, there are authorized people that can view your results to assist you with your individualized study plans.

If I lose or misplace my SID and Personal Password, what do I do?
If at any time you misplace or lose your SID or fail to remember your Personal Password, you can approach one of our proctors for assistance.

Assessments

What is the difference between Proctored and Non-Proctored Assessments?

The Proctored Assessments are designed to set the baseline for a student’s overall knowledge level in each nursing content area.  These assessments pinpoint exactly where students’ deficiencies are.  This secured, standardized assessment is administered in the computer lab at the beginning of each Content Mastery Module and provides scores for mastery of nursing content areas, nursing process, critical thinking phases, therapeutic intervention, communication skills and cognitive levels.

Non-Proctored Assessments on the other hand, are used to strengthen students’ knowledge after they have used the Review Modules to remediate and review.  The rationales for both correct and incorrect answers further strengthen and supplement understanding of nursing content areas.

When is it best to take Non-Proctored Assessments? How do I get access?
Non-Proctored Assessments should be taken after students have reviewed areas of deficiencies indicated in the “Topics to Study” list found in the results of the Proctored Assessments.  With the use of Review Modules to   sharpen key concepts and critical thinking skills, students can re-test their knowledge with the Non-Proctored Assessments.  The rationales for both correct and incorrect answers provided in the Non-Proctored Assessments will also help to further strengthen understanding of various concepts. Please request Non-Proctored Assessment ID’s and passwords from your proctor.

Can I discuss the assessment questions with my other classmates?
Rather than discussing specific assessment questions with your classmates, we advise that you discuss general topics taken up during the assessment for further understanding.  Again, these topics are listed in the Topics to Study”area of your assessment results.

Can we get answers to proctored assessments?
No, but you can base your performance on the results of the Proctored assessments, which can be printed out immediately after completing the assessment.  Remember, Proctored assessments are designed to assess stock knowledge in key topic areas.  Answers are only provided for Non-Proctored Assessments, which show rationales.

How many times can I take the assessments?
Proctored Assessments are taken only once while the Non-Proctored Assessments can be taken up to five (5) times for each key content area. Please be reminded that there should be a 1 to 2 week interval between each take of the same Non-Proctored Assessment. This helps to accurately gauge improvement in the content area.

Assessment and Results Interpretation

When do I get the results of my assessments?
Online assessment results can be viewed and printed immediately after each Proctored or Non-Proctored Assessment.

What is the passing score for assessments?
There is NO passing score for assessments.  Only tests or exams can have pass or fail marks.  By nature, assessments are meant to measure a students’ knowledge in order to make them aware of content areas which are weak and need more attention.

In Evoke Learning, we establish “benchmarks” that serve as a guide and a score to strive for.  This raw score is 65% and above.

Who will see my online assessment results?
Online assessment results are personal and can only be viewed by the account holder.  However, there are authorized people that can view your results to assist you with your individualized study plans.

How do I interpret my assessment results?
Assessment results for Proctored and Non-Proctored Assessments can easily be evaluated by looking at YOUR SCORE, which represents the number of correct answers divided by the total number of questions.

Now that your know how you’ve fared as individuals, you can also compare your scores relative to (1) the average of all others nurses in the US who have taken the assessment (INDIVIDUAL PERCENTAGE NATIONAL MEAN); (2) the average of all other nurse students in your Program (e.g. BSN Philippines) who have taken the assessment (INDIVIDUAL PROGRAM MEAN).

Furthermore, by viewing the INDIVIDUAL NATIONAL PERCENTILE RANK, you can determine your ranking on a scale of 1-99 against all the US nurses who have taken the assessment.  Likewise, the INDIVIDUAL PROGRAM PERCENTILE RANK will indicate your ranking on a scale of 1-99 against all the nurse students in your Program (e.g. BSN Nursing).

NOTE:  You can also ask the assistance of the Nursing Department to help interpret your results.

How can I track my nurses?
If you are an agency, your nurses can be tracked through the Program Progress Reports (PPR) and Weekly Progress Reports (WPR).   These reports will help ensure that your nurses go through the program as scheduled and in a timely manner so they are prepared prior to their NCLEX scheduled date.

Driven-Review

Evoke Learning would like all students to take full advantage of the benefits the Advantage Program has to offer.  To ensure learning, progress, and positive results, it is important that students diligently follow the steps outlined in the Assessment-Driven Review method.

Step 1: Proctored Assessment
The ADR method begins with a proctored assessment which evaluates students’ mastery in various nursing content areas. The assessment results, which are immediately provided, indicate those areas of weakness where students need to focus their remediation.  The section called “Topics to Study”found in the assessment results, very specifically point each student to certain content within Review Modules and serves as a starting point for focused and self-directed study in order to improve their knowledge and future test scores regarding key nursing concepts.
Students also receive a cumulative Report Card showing scores from all assessments taken throughout the program—beginning to end. Like reading a transcript, both students and educator can monitor the sequential progress, step-by-step, an assessment at a time.

Step 2: Review Modules (books)
A good assessment is one that supports teaching and learning. The next step in the ADR method of learning is review or remediation with the use of Review Modules.  The seven (7) review modules provided with the Advantage Program contain concise summaries of topics with clinical overview, therapeutic nursing management, and critical thinking skills. Key concepts are also provided to streamline the study process. The ATII Review Modules are not intended to serve as a primary teaching source. Instead, they are designed to summarize the material relevant to nursing content areas.  Additionally, students are taught analytical and evaluative reasoning in order to stimulate higher-order thinking as opposed to memorization.

Step 3: Non-Proctored Assessments
The third step of the ADR method is the use of online Non-Proctored Assessments to again help students assess their overall understanding of the content material.  Non-proctored assessments are self-administered and allow students to test from any site with Internet connection (ie. home, school PC lab, Internet café). The assessment results for non-proctored assessments should be used to again direct the student to specific content within the Review Modules. By re-identifying specific areas of content weakness, students can continue focused and directed study.

Different from proctored assessments, the non-proctored assessments provide the student with immediate feedback on all response options by featuring rationales for both correct and incorrect answers.  This additional information supplements students’ understanding of the concept. Detailed explanations are provided for each incorrect (and correct) response to clarify topics that students often confuse, misunderstand, or fail to remember. Readiness to learn often peaks when errors are uncovered; thus, immediate feedback is provided when students are most motivated to find the answer.
