The BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) industry has, for the last few years, been considered the Philippine economy’s lifeline. It has helped tip the scale in terms of salary, benefits and quality of living in favor of the average Filipino.
This ray of hope, however, is now in danger of fading away as business managers express concern over the diminishing number of competent English speakers. The European Chamber of Commerce declared that 75% of college graduates have ‘sub-standard’ English skills. In call centers, only 6% of candidates interviewed possessed the level of English proficiency required. Even overseas, the employment of Filipinos are tenuous as they risk being replaced by Chinese and Indian workers who not only speak English better, but can write and analyze reports in English better than their Filipino counterparts.
In response to this pressing need, several institutions have launched courses and seminars to help improve the language skills, and ultimately, the global competitiveness of the Filipino worker. Chief among these institutions is Evoke Learning, a recognized skills training and test preparation center that has recently launched a series of programs called FluentNow!.
The FluentNow! Programs feature curricula that are tailor-fit to the unique English-speaking needs of the individual. More than an English enhancement course, FluentNow! takes into account the business environment that its students are being prepared for. Professionals and fresh graduates from all walks of life and spanning a wide variety of industries can be confident that they will find a program under FluentNow! that they will find most useful in their professional lives.
FluentNow! for Young Professionals (YP) is aimed primarily at corporate office workers. Designed to educate enrollees in business English, and basic office skills with a focus on communication techniques and styles, it also includes a back to the basics grammar refresher module.
To make the program attainable for the people it was made to help, Evoke Learning has decided to extend a 50% discount on its YP Program this Christmas season. Originally priced at
Php 4,000, students can now enroll for only Php 2,000 as long as they enroll on or before December 31, 2006.
Other individuals that the FluentNow! curricula are designed to help are professionals in the tourism industry (FluentNow! for Hospitality and Tourism Industry Front Liners), call center agents (FluentNow! for Call Center Agents), and teachers (FluentNow! for Teachers).
Evoke Learning started earning academic recognition when it opened its doors as a test preparation center in 2003. Since then, Evoke Learning has been instrumental in helping close to 4,000 professionals broaden their career possibilities through its nursing and English programs.
Evoke Learning opens and operates education centers nationally, with branches in Manila, San Fernando (Pampanga), Cebu and Davao.
